More Than A Game (Hoop Dreams Akron Style)
Published by McK on September 22nd, 2008.

If you live outside of Akron the names Romeo Travis, Dru Joyce, Sian Cotton, and Willie McGee probably mean nothing.  But these 4 men are more than just a part of the LeBron James entourage.

Collectively with James these five young men took the up and down St. V-M basketball program from being a threat to Hoban and Walsh, to winning three State titles in four years, and then went on to win the USA Today #1 National ranking as Seniors.

In the spirit of Hoop Dreams and Hoosiers, “More than a Game” is a documentary by first-time director Kristopher Belman, which follows James and his teammates on their journey to the state championship.  The film debuted at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival Saturday September 6th.

Also born in Akron, Belman had the foresight smarts to turn a camera onto the Fighting Irish highschool basketball team for a small school project. Never-before-seen footage and candid interviews show how the boys handled growing up, on and off the court, under the guidance of Coach Dru Joyce.

It turns out LeBron James has a heart (see video above). James apparently teared up at the screening and admits to crying for the first time since their 8th grade team lost the championship.
