Derf is the alias of John Backderf, a Richfield-born artist best know for his comic strip, The City, as well as his graphic novels. Derf attended school with Jeffrey Dahmer. He self-published the comic book My Friend Dahmer in 2002, recounting the Revere High School days of the infamous serial killer.

Derf’s most recent work, Punk Rock & Trailer Parks, is a depiction of Akron’s former punk rock scene.
